This is a super easy, quick and fun sensory activity for toddlers using household ingredients. Your child can even mix the ingredients together themselves. This is a great ‘dough’ to put out for imaginative kitchen and cooking play. You can add a muffin tray, whisk, cup cake cases, spoons, measuring cups, the options are endless. Children love the texture and it can keep them busy for ages.
You will need:
1 cup of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda)
2-3 tablespoons water
food coloring or liquid watercolors are optional
How to:
Place the bicarb into a bowl and start with 2 tablespoons of water and mix in and add more if needed. The texture you are looking for is crumbly but will hold together when you squeeze it. Add food coloring or liquid watercolor if you wish. Note that food coloring might stain.
Conclusion
I hope you and your children have fun experimenting with this activity. You can also make various colors and let your child see what happens when they mix them together. I would not keep this, once played with I would discard it. If your child is finished playing with it, you can always add vinegar and pipettes to make some fizzing fun!
